MD-A10 // 2023-07 LP4

This disc is for Gunner5, shipped as part of hard disk swap. It has six major sections, they're not officially grouped on the disc, but there's lots of crossover regardless.

The disc was recorded in LP4 using an MZ-B10 and then titled in Web Minidisc using a CSV file on an MDS-NT1.

The WAVs are provided to hard disk swap participants, but the disc can unfortunately not be fully re-constituted via NetMD, due to runtime overhead when writing with NetMD.

Mode: LP4
TRT: 320ish

Track Listing

  1. Dance Mode // Bluey OST
    • So the first "group" is "Dance Mode"
    • so like hypothetically if i watched the first two seasons of the show at least thrice through, it's very fun and heartwarming even as a childless adult
    • the music is great and the two albums are enjoyable on their own even without the show
  2. Land Locked Heart (from Road 96: Mile 0) // The Midnight
  3. Endangered Species // Deep Forest
  4. Misere Mani // ERA
  5. The Adventure // Fraser Edwards
  6. Vampires // The Midnight
  7. Keygen // Lukhash
  8. Starlight Eyes // Trash80
  9. I Could Be the One (Avicii vs. Nicky Romero) [Nicktim Radio Edit] // Avicii & Nicky Romero
  10. Firelight // Kubbi
  11. Way Back (Feat. Cozi Zuehlsdorff) // Vicetone
  12. Sandstorm // Darude
  13. Omnibus (Radio Version) // Laut Sprecher
  14. Take Me Away (Into the Night) // 4 Strings
  15. Dreams of an Absolution // Bentley Jones
  16. Leave off at Seven // Ashbury Heights
  17. I Won't Back Down // The Goo Goo Dolls & O.A.R.
    • This marks the start of what I call "Normal People Music" although really everything on here is normal to someone.
    • This struck me because I already liked the Tom Petty version of this song and I'd been getting into Goo Goo Dolls a bit

  18. Building a Mystery // Sarah McLachlan
  19. I'll Be There for You // Mike + The Mechanics
  20. What Kind of Man // Florence + The Machine
  21. What About Everything? // Carbon Leaf
  22. Ship To Wreck // Florence + The Machine
  23. Hello Seattle // Owl City
    • I couldn't find enough "Seattle" songs to fill out a whole disc, but of what I found, these are my favorite three so far
    • From like 2008 to 2013 or so Owl City was basically puntown, but modern Owl City is very "I was saved by Religion and also pulling yourself up by the bootstraps is both possible and cool" so it's one of those things, IDK if the guy's done any misconduct but I feel weird about him. So very catchy though. I lived in the outer orbit of the Seattle area until like 2003 and when I came back for the first time in 2017 I looped this on the car stereo from basically like Tacoma all the way into where we stopped in Kent, which was very annoying for everyoe else involved.
  24. Seattle // Deaf Havana
    • I didn't actually expect to like this one quite as much as I did, but it's an honest, genuine, slow bop with lyrics I can weirdly relate to even though I also can't really relate to them.
  25. Far Away from Seattle // Hellofatester
  26. Love and Appreciation // Agnes
    • Entering the third major group, which I called "Pride and Love Interlude, I Guess"
    • Because who doesn't need a little love and appreciation?
  27. Silver Moon // Donkeyboy
  28. Jenny (I Wanna Ruin Our Friendship) // Studio Killers
  29. King // Years & Years
  30. This Hell // Rina Sawayama
  31. Speaking Japanese // Shiny Toy Guns
    • I called this section "Speaking Japanese" even though there's some French and German mixed in. I should probably find a larger group of, just, "non-English music" - it's something I both feel like I am and am not well-practiced in
    • Love Shiny Toy Guns in particular and this song reminds me of one of my best friends, who learned Japanese and then straight-up moved to Japan, it's a very "I'll do as I please and you can't stop me" song
  32. NEXUS <PODv> (feat. Laco) // SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]
  33. Last Love Song // GARNET CROW
    • I discovered this song listening to one of the streams on iTunes in like 2005, my original copy of it is a whopping twenty four kilobits per second and has JAPANARADIO in audible all caps emblazoned into it at one or both ends of the file.
    • It's pretty much a generic pop-rock love song, but it hits the ears right.
  34. Tsuki No Wan // sakanaction
  35. Sakayume // King Gnu
  36. Sayonara ha Emotion // sakanaction
  37. Informal Empire // WORLD ORDER
  38. La neige au Sahara // Anggun
    • I like Anggun in English but if I'm honest this song, the French version of it, is entirely in here as a joke about Sony NEIGE minidiscs
  39. Choere // Mark Forster
    • So like I don't "speak" german but I'm only a few credits short of a minor in it and I have a 2300+-day duolingo streak in it and I love this song because it's just super positive, like, you're doing fine, nobody noticed the inconsequential thing you messed up, you're too hard on yourself, the choir really is singing for you
  40. Wenn Du Mich Vergisst // Mark Forster & Kontra K
  41. ICH FRAG DIE MAUS // Mark Forster
    • okay so yes I was just kind of cruising through Mark Forster's discography in particular
  42. Friendly Fires // Silversun Pickups
    • This beins the last major section of the disc, yes I realize it's almost half of the whole thing - "High Energy, Indie Trash, Millennial Anxiety"
    • The high energy bit is, I just love big songs that are fast and have a lot going on
    • Indie Trash refers to, there's a couple less common artists in here, a lot of these songs I discovered as part of iTunes samplers or the free song of the week deal Apple was doing in the 2000s.
    • The Millennial Angst thing is mostly, like, songs about the conditions of life in Our Modern Times, that's not per se exclusive to millennials but I'm that age so it's the way I'm framing it.
  43. Alienation // Morning Parade
  44. Cardiac Arrest // Bad Suns
  45. Anti-Gravity // RUNAGROUND
  46. Breaking Up My Bones // Vinyl Theatre
  47. Ghost // Mystery Skulls
  48. Fire Alarm // Castlecomer
  49. Living In America // The Sounds
  50. In The Clouds // Under the Influence of Giands
  51. Ten Feet of Snow // The Action Design
    • I found this song ahead of a winter where we literally got ten feet of snow in my town, it's been a long-time favorite ever since
  52. Queensway // Coral Bones
  53. Mirrorball // Danny Olson & Jynx
  54. Six Feet // Patent Pending
  55. Ophelia // The Lumineers
  56. West Coast // Step Rockets
  57. Hostage // Nothing But Thieves
  58. Wide Awake // Grizfolk
  59. Go! // Public Service Broadcasting
    • This whole album is amazing, it's about the space race and I recommend it
  60. HARD LOVE // NEEDTOBREATHE
  61. Work Shoes // USS
  62. Can You Stay // The Family Crest
  63. New Machines // Vinyl Theatre
  64. Now or Never // Metric
  65. Back into View // Captain Tractor
  66. Echoes of You (Feat. Roger Joseph Manning Jr.) // Marianas Trench
    • High key "I really promise I'm not losing it, I swear" energy
  67. It Doesn't Matter Why // Silversun Pickups
  68. Get Out // Cruisr
  69. Shatter Us // The Rocket Summer
  70. I Can't Eat Money // 7 Days In Alaska
    1. Ironically: money would solve several of my problems
  71. Run Dry (X Heart X Fingers) // Patrick Stump
    • Wow that guy sounds like Fall Out Boy
  72. Seventeen Going Under // Sam Fender
  73. Love Brand New // Bob Moses
  74. Angel with a Shotcgun // The Cab
  75. Honey Whiskey // Nothing But Thieves
  76. Hearts on Fire // The Family Crest
  77. Sun // Two Door Cinema Club
  78. HAPPINESS // NEEDTOBREATHE
    • So I think these guys might officially be, like, "Christian Rock" but I love the energy and the lyrics are just vague enough that you can't tell
  79. Explode // Patrick Stump
  80. Life is Yours // Foals
  81. Starlight // Mystery Skulls
    • So I got into Mystery Skulls because of the "Mystery Skulls Animated" videos, starting with Ghost, which is really great and all three of them are worth watching.
    • This is off his newest album, which is great, and, I know artists don't super love comparisons but it's got an excellent Daft Punk feel
